Through every twist and turn, in both good times and bad, he has been the one constant. If you looked up the definition of unconditional love, you'd find him there. He’s been there since the moment I was born to my then-18-year-old mother, and he's never missed a milestone since.
From kindergarten graduation to martial arts belt tests, when I needed a parent for a school field trip, he was there. He stood proudly at my high school graduation, beamed at my college graduation, and even walked me down the aisle on my wedding day. Through every moment that mattered, big or small, he has always shown up.
Now that I have my own family, he continues to be a pillar—not just for me, but for my children, too. He shows up for school events, like Veterans Day at my oldest child’s school—proudly representing his time in the Air Force. If he can be there, he will be there.
Some say I rely on him too much, but I don’t see it that way. His love didn’t make me dependent—it made me strong. I would not be the woman I am today without him.
Lately, though, life reminded me that even the strongest people have limits. His health took a turn, and although he remained strong in spirit, I was scared. Terrified, honestly. The thought of losing him filled me with an aching pain I couldn’t put into words.
But in that moment of fear, I remembered everything he's taught me—especially how to be strong when it matters most. So I wiped away the tears, put on a brave face, and showed up for my family like he always has for me.
Yes, I was scared. But I stayed strong—for him.
Good news? He’s okay now.
It turned out to be a tough bacterial infection that really kicked his butt for a while there—but in true form, he fought through it with that same strength he’s always shown. He never stopped being the strong one. And now… he's coming HOME!
My hero, my constant, my grandfather—once again proving what true strength looks like.
